What’s New at LinkedIn…Really?

The other day I accessed LinkedIn from a computer at an internet cafe, which allowed me to see the full login page for the first time in a long time. The login page features a list of what’s new at LinkedIn:

Hmm… really?

LinkedIn Answers launched in January 2007. Personalized URLs and public web profiles have been around since 2006. The “new way to find and connect with former classmates” was released in April 2007, as best I can tell. And “the new Outlook Toolbar” was May 2006.

Considering all the other LinkedIn new features, I was surprised to see this so out-of-date. There’s a missed opportunity / broken process here.

What would be really smart would be for LinkedIn to create a category or tag on their blog for posts about new features and then they could just pull the five most recent headlines in that category onto this page automatically. That would keep it fresh without requiring anyone to manually update it.
