Rika -- no question that the Answers section is an extremely valuable part of LinkedIn. But I didn't overlook it -- I deliberately left out, because I was looking for things that make LinkedIn significantly different from other social networking services. One could argue that the "keeping in touch" aspect is available with other services, but for the most part (not making an absolute blanket statement), not with the same level of robustness at the free membership level and with widespread general usage (key for that purpose). On the other hand, I have been getting good quality answers to questions on Ryze, Xing, Ecademy and numerous Yahoo! Groups for a very long time.

With the launch of LinkedIn Answers, there is a 4th compelling reason: the ability to tap on or grow the collective knowledge and expertise in your network.

This is assuming you've linked up to people you know or trust to be reliable, of course. Then, even if your immediate contact does not know the answer, their contacts down the trust chain may or can refer to people who can help you.

I wrote a post about "how to improve linkedin". I think it is a great tool and there is still some room of improvement. http://vaninadelobelle.com/How-to-improve-LinkedIn-functionalities-_a739.html
